Description

The Fjällräven Greenland Jacket is an Outdoor classic from 1968 that was developed in collaboration with members from the 1966 Greenland expedition.

The original Greenland was made of tent material that was too heavy for lightweight tents and resulted in the development of an extremely durable jacket much appreciated by climbers. Over a short period of time this jacket gained popularity for general use in forests and fields demonstrating rare durability.

Today, many of the earlier versions have been passed to younger generations due to their incredible lifespan. The Greenland is made of durable and adaptable G-1000® fabric with extra reinforcement over the shoulders and yoke. Featuring a two-way zipper with buttons in the front and at the sleeve cuffs and a snugly fitting hood - this jacket is a classic that is aging with dignity.

G-1000 Durability

After the Greenland Expedition in 1966 it became obvious that the selection of quality outdoor clothing on the market was severely limited. By using a specially developed material that had been too heavy to use for his lightweight tents, Fjällräven's founder, Åke Nordin, sewed the first Fjällräven garments.

With the addition of a mixture of beeswax and paraffin, the material demonstrated properties that were excellent for the outdoors. The material was named G-1000, after the Greenland Expedition. The wax was named Greenland Wax. Since then this combination has proven its excellence on a countless number of adventures.

Be prepared for adventures in all climates With G-1000, from the tropics to the polar caps this fabric is designed to hold its own in the most testing of conditions. G-1000 is proven to withstand many years of tough use far from the beaten path and, given its adaptability, makes it arguably one of the best outdoor fabrics on the market.

G-1000 Versatility

G-1000 is Fjällräven's own functional fabric. The tight weave is impregnated with Greenland Wax. This blend makes the fabric extremely durable, breathable, wind and water restistant. With Greenland Wax you can adapt your garment to current weather conditions. Greenland Wax is a biodegradeable product made of bees wax and paraffin.

Particularly important is the fact that you can easily adapt the impregnation of your garment to the current weather conditions by adding (or removing) Fjällräven's environmentally friendly Greenland Wax - take a peak at our video link to see just how easy this is or read on below.

How To Wax G-1000

You can adapt your G-1000 garments to different weather conditions and activities at home or out in the field. With more wax the garment increases its water and wind repellency. It also improves the durability and lifetime of the garment. With less wax the garment is cooler and offers maximum breathability.

1. Apply Greenland Wax generously into the garment. More wax on seams, shoulders and other exposed areas.

2. Heat the garment until the wax melts and is absorbed. Use an iron (one dot on the dial, 110°C/230°F), hairdryer or campstove*.

To remove wax simply wash the garment in 40°C.

*Clean the iron before use on other clothing. Do not hold the garment too close to the flame of the campstove.

Stylish & Sturdy

I was torn between buying this jacket or the Greenland No. 1 Special Edition. I liked the 2 tone look and the leather trim of the special editions, but liked the extra pockets on the front of this. In the end I went for function over fashion and I'm glad. I use the 2 big front pockets all the time and they're able to hold loads of stuff. I keep my keys, wallet and my glasses in a hard case in 1 of them alone. I said I sacrificed style for these pockets, but that's not true. The coat looks really cool.

Greenland Jacket

A timeless classic, the Greenland jacket. Extremely durable and versatile - I've had a couple of these down the years and they're as good as the day they were bought despite loads of wear in all conditions and a lot of washes. I have noticed more recent examples of the Greenland have a slightly bigger fit than they used to do, may be worth sizing down for a better fit.
