What Are The TGO Awards?

The TGO Awards is a ceremony hosted every year by The Great Outdoors magazine to pay tribute to those companies or individuals in the outdoors community that have put together a fantastic customer offering, provided excellent customer service or made outstanding contributions to the industry.

TGO Awards 2013

Wednesday night (13th November, 2013) saw the 2013 TGO Awards ceremony held at Burgundy’s Wine Bar in Kendal. And what a night it was! As you may be aware, Above and Beyond were up for the illustrious “Online Retailer of the Year” award, thanks to nominations by our wonderful customers. Well we’re thrilled to announce that we actually won the award ahead of some pretty stiff competition. Naturally, we are absolutely flabbergasted, excited, chuffed to bits and humbled by this win. There really are not enough superlatives out there to convey just how we feel. The award was gleefully accepted by our commanders in chief Darren and Tracey on behalf of team A&B.

Huge Thank You To Our Customers and Supporters

We can’t possibly talk about this award without mentioning our customers and supporters. It is thanks to your support, nominations and voting that we are in this position. Without you we are nothing and for that we are eternally grateful. How can we ever repay you? Well, we have a few ideas. We plan to keep taking the business to new heights, providing you with an even greater selection of top brands and amazing product offering. We are also making it our goal to take our customer service, which has taken significant strides in 2013, to the next level.

Let Us Not Forget The Suppliers

Often forgotten about at such times are suppliers. We are blessed to work with some of the best suppliers in the outdoors market who provide us with not only industry leading brands from all over the world but also amazing customer service and support. It is the people that make up our suppliers that keep us running smoothly, I’m talking about the MD’s, sales, customer service, marketing and warehouse guys and not forgetting the tireless representatives who trek up and down the country to see us. A huge thank you goes out from team A&B for your unsung part in our success.

So Who Else Won?

Notable winners include Vivienne Crow for her “Book of the Year” titled Lake District Walks With History and Ramblers GB for their coastal access campaign. The fantastic Gift Your Gear initiative scooped the illustrious “Judges Special Award”. From a hospitality perspective there were great wins for the Wasdale Head National Trust Campsite and the Clachaig Inn at Glencoe. And product-wise there were deserved wins for the Nordisk Telemark 2 tent (“Camping Product of the Year”) and the Brunton Hydrogen Reactor (“Outdoor Equipment of the Year”).

Summary

All in all it was a fantastic night which would have been thoroughly enjoyed even if we had not won. It was great to meet up with and see all of the famous names from the outdoor community (Alan Hinkes and Chris Townsend were in attendance). And it was especially great to meet up with some of our suppliers and their representatives and even better to share in their triumphs. Thank you one and all once again for your fantastic ongoing support.
