Starting in the picturesque village of Chipping Camden, it takes the walker through a landscape of steep escarpments, bare plateaux and wooded valleys, passing a number of important historical sites en route, before descending into the Severn Valley and ending at the city of Bath. Whether you are walking the trail from end to end or exploring a part of it, you will find this easy-to-use guide indispensable.
National Trails are long distance routes covering about about 2,500 miles in England and Wales created by linking existing local footpaths. In Scotland the trails are called long distance routes.
The first National Trail was the Pennine Way which opened in 1965 and since then another 14 have opened up in England and Wales.
Funding for the National Trails is mainly provided by government through Natural England and the Countryside Council for Wales.
The National Trails are walked in part or from end to end by tens of thousands of people every year. You don't have to start at one end - you can start anywhere & sample a part of these treasured stretches of land.
Aurum also publish Recreactional Path Guides which take in other Long Distance paths which haven't (yet) been categorised as National Trails.
Popular guides from the range include...
The West Highland Way, The Cumbria Way, The Pennine Way (North & South), The South West Coast Path, The Coast to Coast Walk & the World Heritage Site that is Hadrian's Wall Path.
Aurum Press were founded in 1976 and in partenrship with Natural England publish a series of official National Trail Guides & Recreational Path Guides which cover all the established National Trails. A percentage of the profits from the sales of the guides is returned to Natural England for use in maintaining & improving the network.
